Child Beauty Pageants Why People Dislike Them
Child beauty pageants get under the skin of many and if you really want to know why so many people hate child beauty Pageants it just maybe because there is something that’s borderline sexually abusive about a three year old wearing a tiny bikini and shaking her hips with her synthetically tanned body? Or, maybe many people hate child beauty pageants because they feel children are robbed of their childhood when they participate in these pageants.
The most beautiful thing about a child is his or her innocence, imagination, and ability to view and embrace the world in a child-like manner. So, when a mother dresses up a young girl in a leather cop uniform with attached handcuffs and then make her imitate an arrest–that mother is robbing her daughter of her innocence, imagination and her child-like wonder.
If you really want to know why so many people hate child beauty pageants go take a look at pageant contestant head-shots. Do they look happy? Well, they may appear to be happy at the moment but are they really happy? Now, if your child is in a pageant after looking at the head-shot… look at her while she sleeps peacefully or after a day of playing outside in the park. See any similarities? Didn’t think so? These young girls are put through excess eyebrow waxing and synthetic tanning, when they should be outside playing and having fun with friends and siblings playing at the park.
Many of these child beauty pageant contestants are forced to endure endless hours rehearsing unnatural, mechanically fake routines. Why not just turn on the music and let these young girls have fun doing those silly dances in their own way? Why not let them run through the sprinkler system? NOW, that’s beautiful and fun.
Another of the many reasons why so many people hate child beauty pageants is because pageantchild beauty contestants are forced to grow up to be adults far too soon and at a time when they are not truly ready.
What are the Negative Effects of Child Pageants?
Some say child beauty pageants are a form of child exploitation. That they exploit children by making them feel like they have to look perfect at all times and that if they don’t then they are not good enough. These competitions also teach them to be self-centered and selfish. The negative effects can be seen in the following ways:
- The children are taught to focus on their looks and how they appear to others
- They are given a false sense of self-worth and value based on their appearance
- They are taught that they need to be perfect in order to be loved, which leads them to have low self-esteem
- Their childhood is robbed from them as they grow up too fast and miss out on the opportunity for playtime or other activities
- It causes some children to develop eating disorders
How to Prevent These Negative Effects?
Child beauty pageants are not a new phenomenon. In fact, they are centuries old. The earliest recorded child beauty pageant was in the 1800s in France. But what is new is that more and more children are entering these pageants at earlier ages than ever before. There has been a lot of debate about whether or not these competitions have any positive effects on the children involved, but there is a lot of evidence that they do not. The negative effects of child beauty pageants can be avoided by making sure that the children who enter them have their parents’ consent and that they understand what it means to be in one.
Young kids of three and four years are caked with makeup to make them look like little adults who haven’t had the time to be kids. What are we doing to these kids, and why are we making these kids grow up to be adults way ahead of their time. These children are not ready neither are they prepared to be adults so why push them so vigorously?
Many frown on parents who take pictures of their children in the bath tub and in some cases even phone the authorities because they think its lewd and wrong. But, when these pageant child beauty contestants are pushed beyond the boundaries and made to act and behave in non childlike ways; people tend to look the other way and this may be why so many people hate child beauty pageants.
Yet, another of the many reasons why so many people hate child beauty pageants has to do with some of the mothers and their bad attitudes. Some of these moms go to the extreme with their children. They have a tendency to live their dreams – dreams that they never really achieved through the lives of their young children. This is so wrong as young children should not be caked with tons of makeup, wear a skimpy bikini suit with high-heels and then made to strut their stuff and look sexy. The mothers of these young children need to be blamed as they put lots of pressure on these kids while living their dreams and aspirations through the lives of these young children.
Since most pageantchild beauty competitions occur on a weekend; the child that does go to school during the week has really not much time to invest in building healthy relationships, behaviors, attitudes or to follow their own dreams and aspirations. Another reason why so many people hate child beauty pageants is because many of these pageantchild contestants tend to develop eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia later on in life.
To change the minds of the many people who hate child beauty pageants, the solution would be to set laws that protect these children; like there should be a set age when a child can participate, the rules governing behavior of contestants should be revised, and mothers who go out of their way to force these kids should be penalized. Also, child beauty pageants age limit should be sixteen instead of starting kids off while some are still in diapers. Are you one of the many people who hate child beauty pageants?
