Are Child Beauty Pageants Harmful
I keep trying to finish but I don’t really know what to say, so can someone please help me?
Beauty pageants are really harmful to children, and even adults. Okay sure you can get scholarships from beauty pageants, but when you’re four or five you are just starting out in school and you don’t think about your future, so it doesn’t really matter if you get a scholarship, because little kids don’t even know what a scholarship is.
When you’re a kid, you’re supposed to play in the mud and hang with your friends and have a childhood, but these beauty pageants are taking them away from little kids and making them grow up too fast. It’s not normal for six year old to wear make-up! Like I said before they’re just little kids and they need to slow down and not try to grow up too fast. You only get a childhood once and once it’ gone you can’t get it back.
So ,I think parents should be more responsible and let their children have their childhood because I think that is the most important thing in someone’s life. Marcia Summers, who is an educational psychology professor, says “We are denying some of these children their childhood, which is something you can never get back. At age twenty, you can’t get together with a bunch of friends and play in the dirt or play cars. You’d look and feel pretty silly.”
People in beauty pageants are more likely to have eating disorders like bulimia, and anorexia because they may think that if they gain even a little weight that they won’t win and in my opinion it doesn’t really matter if you win because everyone is beautiful.
Some people may think beautiful as in what someone looks like, but that’s not what I mean when I say that everyone is beautiful. When I say everyone is beautiful I mean their talents and I strongly believe that everyone is good at something, whether it’s math or dancing or even speaking. Beautiful doesn’t mean that someone looks good; it just means that you’re not going to give up at what you really enjoy doing in life.
Beauty pageants should be banned because a lot of problems have occurred. One of them I believe was caused because of beauty pageants. A six-year old girl died on December 25, 1996. The police don’t actually know the killer’s motive, but I think that if her parents never let her participate in beauty pageants she would still be alive today.
Beauty pageants I believe were supposed to be for entertainment and for hobby purposes only, but people especially women have taken it way too far. And since people have been taking these beauty pageants so far and have made it into more than just a hobby kids should NOT be in beauty pageants because all they really learn is to be shallow. Nobody wants to be friends with shallow people except other shallow people.
